WHERE

UAFC Joint Programme works in Nigeria and Cameroon to make the female condom accessible. The large scale country programmes are locally owned and run by a national steering committee, and implemented by a set of local actors: a combination of civil society organizations, the government, UN-agencies and the private sector.

Cameroon Country Programme

Cameroon is among the first countries in the sub-region where studies have been conducted on accessibility and perception of female condoms. These studies show that, in Cameroon, female condoms are appreciated by different target groups.

The lead partner in the UAFC Joint Programme in Cameroon is the Association Camerounaise de Marketing Social (ACMS) In Cameroon female condoms have a real appeal and potential, even while the product is not widely available and is poorly known. Therefore, the UAFC Joint Programme will pay special attention to communicating the benefits of female condoms to a large audience, in order to familiarise the target groups with the usage of the product.
ACMS has worked on female condom programming since 2002, although not on a large scale. However, it is an experienced social marketing organisation. ACMS has vast experience with community-based organisations and youth groups, especially with regard to interpersonal communication.
