UAFC Congratulates CUPID Ltd on UNFPA/ WHO prequalification

The Universal Access to Female Condoms (UAFC) Joint Programme is happy with the news that the CUPIDTM female condom, produced by Cupid Ltd. has been prequalified by UNFPA/ WHO.  We congratulate CUPID Ltd. with this achievement. The fact that the Cupid female condom can now also be procured by UN agencies and large donor organizations will lead to more variety and choice for women and men around the world. We urge UN agencies, donors and other procurers – including national governments - therefore to use this opportunity to add this newly prequalified condom to their procurement list. We also urge national government that are unable to procure themselves to include the Cupid in their funding proposals to UN agencies, donors and other procurers. And last but not least, we urge civil society organizations to advocate for making the product available in their country as well as include it in their programs.

The CUPID female condom was already available in India, Brazil, Indonesia, the Netherlands and South Africa and has recently been launched in Mozambique by PSI Mozambique under the name Jeitosa.

UAFC has supported CUPID and other manufacturers in their process of UNFPA/ WHO prequalification and is excited to see that a second model can be added to the list of prequalified female condoms.

Universal access for all has come a step closer and the whole female condom community rejoices in this news!
