The Programme Coordination Body of UNAIDS

The Programme Coordination Body (PCB) of UNAIDS meeting was held in Geneva in December 2010. The board of UNAIDS, the joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS, decided on its strategic plan for the coming years. One of the lunch sessions was devoted to female condoms and microbicides. In this session, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) showed that although some progress had been made, female condoms were still not distributed very widely.

UNFPA also included new varieties of female condoms in the presentation, such as the Woman’s Condom and the Cupid Condom. Once approved by the World Health Organisation, these new varieties will contribute to making the female condom available, accessible and affordable for all.
