To have things under control
For the official launch of the Universal Access to Female Condom project, nearly 3,000 women and men met at the Yaoundé conference hall on November25th, 2009. Under the co-chairmanship of the Ministers of Public Health and Women Empowerment and Family, the event has renewed commitment to promoting the wee being and health. For this occasion, many stakeholders and decision-makers were present as the Minister of Public Health, the Minister of Women Empowerment and Family, the Minister of Youths Affairs, UN agencies and civil society. As reminder, the female condom is a new technology available and effective for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections including HIV.
The communication campaign that supports the distribution of condoms was also launched by the Minister of Public Health under the slogan « I have things under control ». It will run through billboards, radio, television and print media. The media campaign consists of two TV and radio spots, and an educational song on knowledge and good use of the female condom; this promotional song has been recorded by artists and distinguished leaders including Manu Dibango, Anne Marie Nzié, Narcisse Pryze, Lady Ponce, Isnébo, Prince Afoh Akom, Majoie Ayi, Nono Flavie, Corry des Macases, Valséro, Atango de Manadjama, Kardinal 1er, Valery Ndongo, Michèle Ngoumou, Boudor and Fally Ipupa.
The communications campaign aims to encourage appropriation of the female condom by the target groups through awareness on the proper use and involvement of men to support their partners in adopting this method of contraception. The combined actions will lead to the breakthrough of prejudice and stigma about the female condom.
