ADVOCACY TOOLS
UAFC Joint Programme calls upon all people active in the field of development in general and health in particular to advocate for the female condom.
The female condom offers huge potential health benefits because it has high acceptability rates in developing countries. Female condoms should be made available, accessible and affordable for all. Leadership and funding are needed to ensure that everyone has access to this life saving prevention method.
The high cost of the female condom and the general lack of competition in the market have so far been major stumbling blocks for universal accessibility. Scaling-up the programming promises a decrease in price. Therefore national governments, civil-society organizations, and the private sector should collaborate on comprehensive long-term integrated female condom programming, making female condoms available to all women and men, given their universal relevance as a contraceptive and STI- prevention method.
Through advocacy, networks can engage in high-level dialogue with policymakers and other influential leaders on broad policy issues and national policies.
By generating public support for UAFC and linking it to other important social and economic topics under consideration by policymakers— such as family planning, reproductive health—a network can help change the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of major decision makers. At the same time, a network can help ensure that more appropriate and representative policies and resource allocations are in place for UAFC activities.
An international Advocacy Platform is initiated and various advocacy tools for female condom programming have been developed by UAFC Joint Programme. See the links to the tools on this page.
